Blue and white Ford Fiestas, blue and white bicentenary banner

Thornbury URC was hosting a display of Ukrainian artwork and standing in solidarity with the Ukrainian people when I visited with my friend Vickie in early May.

In the meantime, Putin blunders on.

Russia’s war against Ukraine is outrageous. Defend Ukraine!

I looked up the most common modes in Ukrainian folk music, one of them is the Dorian—minor third, minor seventh, major sixth—and played a slightly faltering improv in a Dorian on D. There were quite a few people looking at the art work, and the more people listening, the more limited becomes the playing I find.

You can hear it here.

Anyway, I absolutely loved this organ, and the space. I thought the instrument sounded so beautiful, and I wish I could have sat with it a little longer. The hall was great too, very welcoming and bright. I hope that people enjoy listening to the organ regularly. Thank you very much to Gwyn for letting me come and play, and solidarity with Ukraine!
